who am i?Hi! I'm Christina. I am many things; daughter, sister, wife, Sooner, Star, reader, baker, drinker, foodie, Celiac, stubborn, nerdy, girlie, sassy and sometimes sweet, but most importantly I get to call myself lucky. I am a previvor. My BRCA2+ mutation was discovered February 2015 and my husband and I have been down the very emotional, personal, frustrating, and empowering journey of what that means to us and what we do with that information. (There will be any posts about this process, I'm sure)

how did i get here?I was born into a family of mostly women. And those women get breast cancer. It is a reality. Until I was 27, I didn't even know there was anything I could do except early detection with biannual mammograms/breast MRIs. My maternal great-grandmother and grandmother both beat cancer, my maternal aunt was not so lucky. She lived with various forms of cancer for over 11 years. Breast Cancer was/is a reality for the women in our family. As she was edging her 60th birthday, my mother's breast doctor urged her to do some genetic testing. This ended up being the first domino to fall in my story. She tested positive for the BRCA2 mutation and within the year had her prophylactic bilateral mastectomy scheduled. So, a couple of years later, with the support of my parents and my mother's doctor, I also got tested. And now, with that information, my story begins.
